When businesses are starting up, they often need a helping hand. If they are looking for immediate retail space or commercial property, the ability to have a go to resource that lists all of the available properties for rent is ideal. There are pockets of councils that are offering services to help locate office space or business premises for start-ups and SMEs. Their services vary, but offer some good ideas for any council who is looking to do the same. This can be a very valuable service for start-ups and SMEs. It can also be an opportunity to foster relationships and gain engagement with local businesses.

Harrow Council

They list all available business and industrial premises, twice a year. The website contains a listing document, which details all of the available premises for rent, with an office reference to quote when making enquiries. These properties are listed with various commercial property agents, who Harrow have an agreement with to include the listing on their business support and advice hub.

East Riding Council

This council offers a service to start-ups and more established businesses to help them find property that is suitable to their needs. They list details of various premises on the website, as well as current council properties which are available for rent. East Riding also encourage businesses to contact the Inward Investment team to discuss their requirements. This dedicated team will help them identify premises that are right for their needs.

On top of this, the council has also invested in modern business premises that it is renting out as a business centre to start-ups and SMEs, with a view to encouraging networking and supporting business growth with their local community.

Middlesborough Council

Has a dedicated section on its website which details all of the vacant property that is available to rent which is suitable for commercial use. This tends to be property that is council owned and recommend that businesses also review local commercial businesses too.
