The Department of Science and Innovation Technology (DSIT) has awarded Smarter Society with managing a new fund for the Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI).
The AISI Bounty Fund has a potential total value of £5.3 million to be distributed over 2 years.
This fund is designed to support research projects focused on enhancing systemic safety in artificial intelligence (AI).
The AISI works to test advanced AI systems and provide policymakers with insights on associated risks. By fostering collaboration among companies, governments, and the research community, they aim to mitigate risks and drive research that ultimately benefits the public, while also strengthening AI development practices and policy on a global scale.
Geoff Baxter, Managing Director, Smarter Society remarked: “We are delighted to have been selected to launch this bounty fund, aimed at fostering innovation research collaborations. Our extensive grant administration expertise equips us to support the initiative’s goals. We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to drive impactful outcomes through this programme.”
Social Value- Through partnering with The Brilliant Club, a UK charity focused on improving university access for underprivileged students, we will create a new computer science and AI module that emphasises AI security and bug fixing. This initiative aims to equip students with valuable skills that will, therefore, give them a competitive edge when applying to top universities.
