Earlier this month, Smarter Society had the pleasure of presenting to an aspiring group of Business Studies / IT students at the Barnet and Southgate College.
Our presentation on “Business Start Up” gave students a valuable insight into the practical skills needed when turning an idea or hobby into a business, as well as drawing on authentic case studies of the rewards and challenges of business.

We heard from some of the students about their aspirations and we discussed the synergy with learning and self-development in education to its continuation into the business world.
Starting a business is now a really popular career option from many of our students so it was a great opportunity for them to hear about the real life experiences of developing and running a small business. The Smarter Society team’s presentation to our students was well attended and combined basic principles with their experiences; both successes and failures. We hope this will be the start of a long working relationship with Smarter Society helping our students to understand whether running a business could be a suitable career for them.”

Our remit was to provide an informative, thought-provoking presentation about starting a business to students, but we came away with so much more; a flourishing relationship with the college, its students and the strengthened desire to collaborate with other further education institutions.
We look forward to a continued partnership with Barnet and Southgate College, and its students.
We are proud to be working with Barnet Council; as part of a business support programme to provide this engagement within the education sector. It aligns to our fundamental value of supporting students’ self-development, creativity and skills needed to nurture future entrepreneurs.
